The Boothbay Seahawks football season ended Friday with a 36-8 loss to Maranacook in the Class E quarterfinal round. This was the Black Bears' second win over Boothbay in as many weeks. Maranacook defeated Boothbay 27-8 on Oct. 19 in the season finale. Both teams entered their respective last games with 4-3 records. The Black Bears' victory propelled them to a 5-3 record and a No. 3 playoff seed. Boothbay’s loss forced the defending Class E champs to the sixth and final playoff spot and a rematch on Friday.

But four injured players left Boothbay vulnerable to the Black Bear rushing attack, and Maranacook scored three first half touchdowns and roared to a 24-0 lead. Boothbay scored its only touchdown trailing 36-0 in the fourth quarter when Michael Hollowell ran 90 yards for a touchdown. Boothbay finishes 4-5. Maranacook (6-3) advances to the Class E semifinals and plays No. 1 Freeport.
