On Saturday, May 25, The Friends of Colonial Pemaquid will kick-off the 2019 summer season of events at Colonial Pemaquid State Historic site in New Harbor. The festivities will commence at 2 p.m. with a concert performed by Ellsworth Maine-based St. Andrew’s Pipes and Drums. Visitors will enjoy traditional tunes of the British Isles with musicians clad in the official Maine State Tartan plaid performed on the parade grounds of Fort William Henry, as well as commentary and a tribute to those who have served our nation. The concert, which is in its 13th year, is free to the public. There is no charge for the program, though donations are appreciated. The rain date is Sunday, May 26.

The Maine St. Andrews Pipes and Drums has performed as a group since 1996, traveling throughout Maine, the United States and Canada, participating in concerts, parades and Highland Games, and providing educational presentations to school groups. The group, which is made up of members who range in age from15-70, brings together an interesting mix of beginner and veteran musicians, some who have an ancestral connection to the instrument’s Scottish beginnings and others who are drawn to the instrument’s haunting sounds.

While enjoying the festivities of Memorial Day weekend, visitors are encouraged to experience English Frontier settlement life in the New World during the 17th and 18th centuries by visiting a reconstructed fort with permanent exhibit, archaeological ruins, cemetery, artifact museum, and a recreation of a 17th century thatched roof cottage. Colonial Pemaquid Historic State Site is open daily, 9 am to 5 pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Directions: Colonial Pemaquid is located off Route 130, 12 miles south of Route 1 and three miles north of the Pemaquid Lighthouse. On Route 130 from Damariscotta, turn right onto Huddle Road and follow signs to Colonial Pemaquid. From Route 32 in New Harbor,, turn left onto Route 130 and then immediately right onto Snowball Hill Road, following signs to Colonial Pemaquid. The Contented Sole Restaurant is on site adjacent to the museum.
