Monmouth wins MVC championship game

The Monmouth Mustangs defeated the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 47-41, in the Mountain Valley Conference championship game held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10 at Boothbay Region High School.

The Mustangs rode out the game after taking an eight-point lead after three quarters, 42-34, holding on to the ball for most of the final eight minutes by choosing their shots wisely. Boothbay had trouble scoring, including the foul line where the Seahawks went 10-for-20, while Monmouth was 13-for-15 from the foul line.

Monmouth led at the half, 22-20.

Abbey Allen with 16 points led the Mustangs, followed by Hannah Anderson with 13. Tia Day added seven points.

Page Brown led Boothbay with 15 points, while Faith Blethen added 11. Glory Blethen scored five and Kylie Brown scored four.

Boothbay finished the regular season at 18-0 and will go in as the top seed in the Class C South tournament. Monmouth had a 17-1 record, the only loss being to Boothbay, and is the second seed in the South.
