The Central Lincoln County (CLC) and Boothbay Region (BR) YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Programs, which help adults lose weight through healthier eating and increased physical activity to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes, are starting new groups in February. The BR YMCA group will begin Feb. 13 and will meet Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. (participants can join this group until Feb. 27). The CLC YMCA group will begin on Feb. 27th and will meet Wednesday nights at 5 p.m.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a yearlong group-based lifestyle intervention for adults at high-risk of developing type 2 diabetes and has been shown to reduce the number of new cases of diabetes by 58 percent overall and by 71 percent in adults over 60. Long-term program goals include reducing participants’ body weight by seven percent and increasing physical activity to 150 minutes per week.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is offered in partnership with LincolnHealth. For more information about this program, or to find out if you are eligible to participate, contact Casey Clark Kelley at cclarkelley@clcymca.org or 207-350-7026.
