New St. Andrews Village Marketing Manager Bob Drury knew the Village was a good fit from the first time he met staff and residents during the interview process.

“When you arrive here and meet the people, you can truly sense the caring environment and the dedication and passion from the staff. That had an immediate positive impact on me,” said Drury.

Drury, who took over his new role in January, has an extensive background in marketing and communications, most recently as the lead Communications Associate Specialist for the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS), where he oversaw all electronic and traditional marketing and communications initiatives, including development of new publications, websites, presentations and outreach material.

At the Village he hopes to use his marketing, communications and event planning background to develop exciting events and invite the community to experience what the Village has to offer.

“I was seeking a position where I could make a difference and effectively utilize my skills. My parents instilled in me a love and respect of older generations and that is partly why I have genuine enthusiasm for working with seniors,” said Drury.

Drury said one of the things that attracted him to the Village was the array of living options it offers the community, with independent living cottages and apartments, assisted living and long-term care, as well as rehabilitation services.

With a proposed 12-unit expansion of the Gregory Wing currently under review by the state, Drury feels it is a particularly exciting time to come to the Village. If approved, the expansion would allow more people to receive care in their community, close to family and friends.

Drury, who lives in Wiscasset with his wife Carole, is very familiar with the Boothbay area. Carole’s parents, Bill and Pat McMurry, live on Ocean Point, and he is looking forward to being more involved in the community through organizations like the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce.

Having grown up in Virginia Beach, close to the Chesapeake Bay, Drury said the Boothbay area’s strong sense of community and amazing coastal environment feel very familiar.

Prior to moving to Maine with Carole in 2000, Bob worked in marketing and communications for nonprofit organizations in Virginia, including the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, the Virginia Opera Association and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America.

“Working for trade associations has been rewarding and challenging. I credit these organizations for helping to build my personal and professional skills,” said Drury.
