Ocean Point: Cleaned up, sign up and more

Tue, 06/11/2019 - 3:00pm

After many quiet weekends this spring, Ocean Point was bustling with activity over the holiday weekend. I think the weather may have contributed to that as we had experienced many weeks of rain, cold and downright miserable conditions.

A large number of Ocean Pointers returned for the first time of the season and it was wonderful to see activity. Our Clean Up the Point Day was very successful with a large number of volunteers pitching in to spruce up our beautiful peninsula after a long winter, many thanks to those who were able to assist. We all enjoyed a wonderful lunch after the event and reconnected with old friends.

Our Town Hall Meeting was well attended on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend; our President Mike Anderson updated us on all the work that has taken place over the winter by the various committees regarding our new Casino. Lanny Whitehouse spoke of the need to continue fund-raising efforts as materials and labor costs have risen. All of this information is on the website, so please take a moment to read that information.

The Activities Calendar is on the website and activities will begin the first week in July. I want to point out two changes to activities: the first Pancake Breakfast will take place on Friday, July 5. As you know in the past it has always occurred the second Saturday of July. With so many residents vacationing that week the Activities Committee thought it would be fun to shake things up a bit and give those who may not be vacationing that second week an opportunity to attend.

Also, for the first time, Chicken Barbecue tickets will be sold online. You may make your reservations and payment online through the website. For those who may not take advantage of this service or have questions, please contact Donna Logan at 633-7202 or myself at m.bertrand1@verizon.net Please remember to bring a salad/side dish or dessert, utensils and your beverage of choice. The dinner begins at 6:30 and the number of tickets is limited so make your reservations early, table reservations may be made for parties of 6 or more.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Ocean Point Road Race which will be held on Saturday, July 20 beginning with a kid’s fun run at 8 a.m. followed by a 5K at 8:30. All of the information is on the website and you should have also received an email from the OPCT with all the details. Stephanie and Kelly have worked many hours preparing for this event so let’s come out and support them and the OPCT!

Sadly, Sarah Dawson and her daughter Izzy lost their home in a fire over the holiday weekend. A Go Fund Me page has been set up by China McHold and can be found on the website, any and all donations are greatly appreciated so that Sarah and Izzy may move forward with rebuilding their lives.

Congratulations to our friend Pat Farrin who recently received the Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal. Pat is a veteran of the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and service to our country and Pat continues with that service today, as he is always there to lend a hand when needed. Thank you Pat.

Randi and Dale Watchowski had a very special celebration on May 25 as their daughter Elizabeth became engaged to Air Force Captain Spencer Boone. The happy couple will be visiting Ocean Point sometime this summer. No official wedding date has been set at this time.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Anderson and Helen Hamblett both of whom celebrated their high school graduations. Elizabeth will be attending Holy Cross in the fall and Helen will attend Wentworth University in Boston. I believe I mentioned not long ago that Mary Batsie also graduated from high school and will attend St. Lawrence University.

    Have a great week!
