Ocean Point Column: August visitors and planned activities

Tue, 08/07/2018 - 11:00am

Our August crowd has arrived and is experiencing some of the best weather of the summer season.

I understand that the Hamblett and the Fuller families totally enjoyed their reunions while vacationing here; lots of food, competitive games and boating were involved in the festivities.

It was wonderful to see Barbara Newell back for a visit even though it was a sad occasion. All of her family and friends gathered to remember and share stories of Gus’ incredible life.

The Ryder/Stephenson family, along with grandchildren and relatives, all gathered on that same day to remember the life of their mom, Grace, and despite the sadness of the occasion it was great to see them all together.

Mark, Flor and Alex Rush were here vacationing for a few days; they have not been here in a few years and were glad to return to the Point.

Chris Ross and daughter Karen are here vacationing with her four children.

After a relatively quiet two weeks, a number of August activities are approaching.

Thank you to the Arnpriesters for hosting the s’mores night last week which all the kids thoroughly enjoyed.

The kids’ Tennis Scramble is on the schedule for Thursday Aug. 9 beginning at 5 p.m. and the Food Sale is Friday morning at 9. Chairperson Pat Landurand would appreciate your bringing your food items to the Casino before 9. Don’t forget to stay and mingle over coffee and donuts.

A Movie Night is planned for Thursday night at 7 for the kids and I’m guessing it will be appropriate for most age levels, but check with Nick to be sure.

The second of the season Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday Aug. 11 8:30-10. This is always a crowd pleaser and a great way to start off your weekend.

Matt and Kathy Lindley will host the second Porch Party of the summer on Saturday evening and you are asked to bring your beverage of choice and an appetizer to share.

Lisa Burger, former pastor at the East Boothbay and Southport Methodist churches, will conduct Sunday Services at the Wilson Chapel. Services begin at 9:30 and all are welcome. Please note that Sunday Services will continue until Sept. 2, Labor Day weekend.

The second Ball Game Grill is Sunday Aug. 12 after the softball game; bring a side dish or dessert to share, burgers and dogs are provided. Later that evening the kids will be treated to another s’mores night at Grimes Cove at 7 (all ingredients are provided).

Dana Turpie informs me that there are only three slots left for her Bigelow Lab tour; if you have not signed up, do so before you are shut out of this fabulous event. The tour is recommended for ages 12 and up.

Kids will have the chance to play another game night on Wednesday Aug. 14 and on Thursday night the ladies will meet once again for a Porch Party at 5:3; bring your beverage and an appetizer to share.

I’m very sad to report that other than one more Scavenger Hunt on Friday Aug 17, the activities are over for the season, where did the time go?

Don’t forget the all-important annual meeting on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m. President Mike Anderson, as well as the finance committee, will give an update on our fundraising efforts and next steps as we move forward towards our goal. You must be a member to vote on any issues which may arise and call for a vote. Please be sure your membership dues are paid in full.

Have a great week and enjoy this beautiful weather!
