Ocean Point Column: The past week was busy

Tue, 08/14/2018 - 12:30pm

It was an extremely busy week here at Ocean Point and our younger population enjoyed many activities. Thank you to Mary Rush for organizing the Beach Picnic, I understand that there was a great turnout with lots of fun and games.

If you have not been inside the Casino this week to view the amazing art piece that was created by the kids, with the assistance of Jonathan Dawson, please take the time do so before the end of the season; it’s quite impressive!

Tons of young folks turned out for a tennis scramble on Thursday evening thanks to Lisa Rush, tennis balls and kids were scrambling everywhere.

A movie was one of the featured activities Friday night and after the movie all the kids moved out to the ball field to play Glow-in the Dark Capture The Flag. I think that this may have been their favorite activity of the season.

Our Food Sale was a successful one thanks to Pat Landurand and Cindy Raposa. Coffee and donuts were enjoyed by a good number of participants and the kids, of course, enjoyed the raffle event.

Maureen and Robert Driscoll along with their kitchen crew: Amber Henderek, Kathy and Matt Lindley and Will Bertrand served up lots of delicious pancakes Saturday morning for a great start to the weekend. Thanks to the waiters and waitresses everything ran quite smoothly and they included: Caroline, Luke and Dillon Driscoll, Jonathan and Luke Yerrall, Isla and Sydney Henderek, Al Dawson, Katy Lindley, Kyle Rush, Logan and Hannah Whitehouse and Jack and Seth Valentine.

Our second Porch Party of the season took place on Saturday evening with lots of yummy appetizers and great conversation which also included an exciting announcement by our president that due to the generosity of so many Ocean Pointers we are extremely close to our fundraising goal.

Paul and Liz Holland organized the always-popular Ball Game Grill on Sunday Aug. 12,thanks to them and to all who donated food and participated.

Smores were enjoyed that evening as Ginna Yerrall and Mary Rush stepped in for Maureen Driscoll to make one of the kid’s favorite desserts; thank you ladies.

Dana Wilson brought another group of Ocean Pointers through Bigelow Lab on Monday which they thoroughly enjoyed; thank you Dana for sharing your time and expertise.

On Tuesday night the kids played a rollicking game of left, right, center planned by Ginna Yerrall. We have an amazing group of volunteers here at Ocean Point and we are extremely grateful to you all.

Susan Anderson along with myself hosted the Ladies Porch Party last night, regrettably the last of the season.

There is one last Scavenger Hunt on Friday evening at 5 and that is the last activity for the kids.

Please plan to attend the Annual Meeting on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m. You must be a member to vote and there is still time to do that before the start of the meeting. See Treasurer Jen Klein for your membership contribution.

Something new has been added to our activities; on Saturday evening, Aug. 18, a Jamaican Buffet Dinner is planned at the Ocean Point Inn beginning with cocktails at 7. Tickets for the dinner are $25 per person and the sign up sheet is at the Casino. Space is limited so sign up quickly.

The Rev. Edward J. Wynne Jr. (Ret.) United Methodist minister, will conduct Sunday Services on Aug. 19 beginning at 9:30; all are welcome! The Annual Meeting of the Wilson Chapel will take place immediately following the service.

Two more services are planned for Sunday, Aug. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 2.

Very special birthday wishes to Cookie Dana who celebrated her milestone with family and friends.

    Have a great week!
