Phone scam reported in region

Late this morning, the Boothbay Harbor Police Department received a phone scam report from a Boothbay region resident.

The resident had missed a call with the I.D. “St. Andrews Hospital” – an immediate red flag – that appeared to originate from a LincolnHealth phone number.

LincolnHealth Marketing and Communications Manager Christine Henson said, “We have contacted our phone carrier who will intervene on our behalf to correct the situation as soon as possible. We’ve asked them to really take a look at the phone numbers as they come through.”

Police Officer Larry Brown said whenever these scams occur, it is very discouraging because there isn’t much they can really do.

“New scams are coming up all of the time,” Brown said. “Please do not ever give personal information about yourself to a stranger or caller you’re not sure of.”

If you receive a suspicious call, report it to the BHPD at 633-2451 or 633-5616.
