Dorothy Magadieu, featured artist for March and April, will be exhibiting her photographs at the Southport Memorial Library. The digital images were taken  just before dawn at Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge in southern New Mexico. Dorothy says that she had hoped to see the migrating flocks of sandhill cranes for which the preserve is noted, but none were visible at the time. Instead, she found a gift for the photographer, a landscape covered by glistening hoarfrost.

A resident of Southport, Dorothy is a fine arts photographer who has worked with both film-based and digital imagery. Her photographs have been exhibited at venues throughout the northeast including: the Photographic Resource Center, the Danforth, DeCorva and Fitchburg Art Museums in Massachusetts; the Maine Media Workshops, Boothbay Region Art Foundation and the Maine Art Gallery in Maine; and the DeBlois and Jessica Hagen galleries in Rhode Island.

Dorothy is a member of the 4x4 Poet and Artist Collaborative, a group of poets and visual artists who find inspiration for their own work in the work of others whose disciplines are very different from their own. The group has recently published a book “Echo & Spark,” which celebrates the first years of their work together. It will be on display at the Southport Memorial Library during the exhibit, March 3 - April 28.

The Library is located at 1032 Hendricks Hill Rd. Winter hours at the library are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evenings. For more information, call 633-2741.
