Planning board considers requiring online applications

Members want applications before meeting

The Edgecomb Planning Board is looking to change the application process. On Aug. 16, members considered requiring applicants to submit all requests online.

In recent meetings, members have expressed frustration over not seeing applications until the meeting. Member David Nutt lamented he’d like more time reviewing applications. Nutt and other members have limited access to applications due to the town office being open 10 hours per week.

“I came a little early to look at the applications because it’s hard finding time to come down to the town office. This is 2018 so let's start using technology so we can have these documents before the meeting. I think we should require some kind of electronic application,” he said.

Other members agreed, including Chairman Barry Hathorne. He directed board secretary Jackie Lowell to contact the municipal website committee to see if the system could accept electronic applications.

In other business, the board approved one application and discussed a future proposal. The board unanimously approved a New Jersey summer resident’s request to install an elevator. Contractor Eric Marden represented Helen Wooddy who requested an elevator for her 32 Clifford Road home. The board also heard Bryce Sullivan’s plan to build a garage at his 23 Quarry Road home. The board told him they would consider his request once he submitted a survey which included setbacks from the water.

The board meets next at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at the municipal building.
