Registration open, volunteers needed for Harbor Fest races

Wed, 08/01/2018 - 7:45am

Registration is open for the Boothbay region’s Harbor Fest 5K and half marathon, to be held Sunday, Sept. 2. Register before Aug. 10 to receive a free event performance T-shirt.

The 5K trail walk/run course winds through one of twenty Boothbay Region Land Trust Preserves on the peninsula. The wooded trail is most ideal for trail runners and/or walkers. The scenery and natural surroundings are spectacular, and the terrain is well maintained, with little elevation. Registration fee is $25.

The Half Marathon is truly one of a kind in Maine, offering miles of water views, from the inner harbor, to open ocean, to lakes and tidal rivers. It crosses over two islands and a historic footbridge, passes by three waterfront parks and through Boothbay’s waterfront harbor village. A picturesque and iconic coast of Maine experience that will inspire you to crest the hills. An ideal training course, and the perfect race to plan a family vacation around, but note this course does have considerable elevations in some areas and is not a flat run. Registration fee is $55.

Volunteers are also needed. There are several opportunities to get involved with race support --- from registration, working one of the water stations along the route, providing directions along the race course, and most importantly, to cheer on the participants. In addition to volunteers, local police, sheriff, EMTs and firemen will be on hand to ensure safety. To volunteer, contact Casey Clark Kelley at cclarkelley@clcymca.org.

Proceeds from the race supports the Central Lincoln County and Boothbay Region YMCA’s evidence-based health intervention programs that help our members prevent and manage chronic disease.
