Harbor Theater showed the Warner Brothers' film “Smallfoot” Friday, Feb. 15 to 308 Boothbay and Southport school children.

The film is one of four sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club this year which teachers select complementing school readings and/or reinforcing a classroom theme --- in this case, kindness and acceptance of others.

The film, released last October, tells the story of a snow-encased mountain-peak village of Yeti ("big feet") suddenly confronting a lost human ("small foot"), whom as a species they didn't believe existed.

A Boothbay Region Elementary School spokesperson posted on their web page "BRES is so thankful to the wonderful folks at the Harbor Theater and for the generosity and support of the Boothbay Rotary. Everyone had a GREAT time."

Southport and Boothbay Region elementary schools sent 148 students plus teachers for a 9:30 a.m. showing and another 160 plus teachers at noon. Theater capacity is 184.

Previous films shown under this program have been “Stuart Little” and “Charlotte's Web.” Two more Rotary-sponsored films to be announced will be shown before the end of the school year.

Boothbay Harbor Rotary is a member of Harbor Theater's 15-member Community Council formed to help save and sustain the theater it took over in 2017. Rotary raises more than $50,000 a year through events like its annual August auction and disperses these funds annually in grants to more than 30 local and international non-profits.

Harbor Theater, a 501 (c) (3) organization, is supported by an all-volunteer board, 30 active volunteers and 502 members. It shows 80 movies a year ranging from art, indie and educational films to first run releases.
