Seahawks open season against Cony High School

Tue, 12/19/2017 - 2:00pm

After a cancellation of the first home swim meet due to weather, the Seahawk swim team hosted Cony for the first meet of the season on Friday, Dec. 15.

It was a great start for returning senior swimmers Evy Case and Emma Pearce, who both qualified for the state swim meet Friday night. Emma qualified in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events while Evy qualified in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. The girls are also part of the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relays with junior Ashley Ames and freshman Maren Whitney. Ashley swam the 100 free while Maren competed in her first high school meet in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Their relay team finished 3rd and 4th, respectively. Ashley is returning to the Seahawks team from last year, and Maren brings her experience from the Y Dolphin team.

For the boys, freshmen Graham Harris, Jameson LaBrecque and Fox Elder round out the boys team with returning sophomore Rowan Kristan. Graham and Rowan both qualified for the state meet. Rowan qualified in the 200 IM while Graham had cut times in the 200 free and 100 free. With three new freshmen, the Seahawks will be able to field relay teams that they have not been able to do the past few years. Jameson, Graham and Fox all bring experience from participating on the Dolphin swim team.

The Seahawks practice with Lincoln Academy and Wiscasset high school and call themselves   “Lincasset Bay Swimming.” They share coaches, practice and meet schedule, but all swimmers compete for their own high schools.

The next home meet is Friday, Dec. 22 at the Boothbay Region YMCA. Splash time is 6 p.m.
