Show that our town cares

Mon, 04/15/2024 - 5:15pm

    Dear Editor:

My room at the elementary school leaked Friday.  My window also doesn’t stay open and won’t shut tight and these seem minor compared to the problems we have with our local school buildings. One leak was in the middle of my room due to a too old bathroom sink above my room. Another leak is due to the side of the building. My leaks aren’t the roof. Why do we feel this is okay for our teachers to work in? Why do we feel it’s okay for our most vulnerable, our children, to learn in?

Please trust those that work in it daily. Trust the leaders you voted on to make these decisions.  Don’t listen to the lies and misinformation. They are so loud but so inaccurate. Get out and vote for our children and show them that they matter.

My middle son recently hosted a basketball tournament here with his coaches and team where we far exceeded what we hoped to recoup in cost to pay for our season. I was so proud. That’s my town I said. My town shows up. My town cares about our kids.

I hope after April 24 I can say the same because right now I’m seriously beginning to have doubts about my town. As a mom to three children in school and a taxpayer who’s lived here my entire life this breaks my heart. How is it that I went to school here and had better conditions than my kids have now? I was a senior when the new addition was put on the high school. It was such a proud and exciting moment. Our town believed in us then and I was proud to say I was educated in those walls. I beg you to restore my faith in my town and reassure me that our kids come first, that our teachers and kids deserve better, and that our town cares.
