Smart Driver seminar: Promoting independence and safety on the road

Nov. 2 in Boothbay Harbor
Sun, 10/22/2017 - 8:45am

On Nov. 2, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council (BRCRC) Community Navigator office and AARP will sponsor the Smart Driver Seminar: Promoting Independence on the Road.

Since 1979, AARP’s Driver Safety Program has provided refresher courses that are designed to meet the needs of older drivers. Experienced AARP instructor, Joyce Polyniak, will teach the Nov. 2 course at BRCRC’s Community Navigator office and new headquarters, located on the LincolnHealth/MaineHealth-St. Andrews Campus, Room 230, 6 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor.

Joyce notes that she will cover such issues as age-related physical changes, changes in perceptual skills, issues specific to driving locally (confused by rotary traffic?), and more. She looks forward to “reminding mature members of our community of the skills and techniques that they may have once learned and giving them updated information on the rules of the road.”

Class size is limited to 15. It is open to ages 50 and above. The cost of the workshop is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Participants who complete the course successfully may be eligible for a discount on their automobile insurance premium.

There will be a 30-minute lunch break. Please feel free to bring a brown bag lunch. There are also vending machines with offerings from St. Andrews Village dining services. For more information, please call the BRCRC Community Navigator office at 633-6272 or email info@boothbayresources.com.
