Soup night at the Center

Mon, 01/28/2019 - 7:30am

The weather was perfect for soup as 20 people attended the Community Center's first “soup night” on Saturday, Jan. 26. The Center offered soup, chili, homemade breads and desserts. The dinner was free.

Diners could help themselves from the slow cookers that kept chili and six types of soup warm. Soups included pasta e fagioli, chicken and corn chowder, kielbasa and cabbage, tomato rotini, Moroccan stew and chicken and rice. Center staff and volunteers prepared the soup. The chefs were Lois Engel, Jen Field, Margaret Perritt, Shawn Lewin and volunteer coordinator Mary Connelly.

Accompanying the soups and chili were a variety of breads and rolls. Pies were served for dessert.

The dinner was Connelly's idea. She worked with Field to organize the event, which ended at 6:30 to accommodate movie-goers. Donations of food and cash were gratefully accepted during the evening.
