Thought you would enjoy a reflective moment — many of you will remember Karyl Bannister Conant who lived for many years across from Love Cove and we all enjoyed her newsletter, “Cook and Tell,” with her newsy fun notes with little sketches and, of course, many recipes. Alice Thompson keeps in touch with her family and mentioned that Karyl is quite happy, enjoying friendships in Arizona where her daughter lives. Many of us continue to use her many recipes. I just made her Sunshine Soup ... so satisfying.

A quick reminder ... if you’re reading this on Wednesday, the Southport Central School children will present their annual Christmas Concert tonight, Dec. 12, at the Southport Town Hall. Always a delight to see these island children enjoy singing and sharing their holiday music.

Another date is Friday, Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. when the students will again be singing at the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews Village.

The earlier deadline on Mondays means I cannot report on the Tuesday meeting regarding the discussion of the replacement of Thompson’s bridge. Stay tuned for more information next week.

Nora Lally (of course, that extraordinary librarian) has offered an extension of the Christmas Craft Fair at the Southport Memorial Library for the rest of December. There are many items to consider for holiday gifts hand-crafted by local artists, including jewelry, some vintage antiques, a tree full of handmade ornaments, unique candies, stuffed whale pillows, small sea stars (stuffed with lavender) made from recycled cashmere (sweet gift).

The library continues to be open Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Garry Blackman and friends will perform at Robinson’s Wharf on Friday, Dec. 14.

About 40 people enjoyed “The Christmas Carol,” the unique one-man show with Will Rhys at the Southport Town Hall on Sunday afternoon. I know there was a standing ovation for his performance.

Southport welcomes new neighbors — Nan and Tom Marston moved into the house right behind the store on Dogfish Head Road. They are from Huntersville, North Carolina. Also, longtime island resident Jane Norton is enjoying having her son, Peter, and his wife, Sue, and their children, Kate and Tim, now living here on Southport at the wonderful old house on the hill (Route 27). They even have Christmas lights out already.
