Special Boothbay town meeting March 27

Wed, 03/27/2024 - 8:45am

A special town meeting at the Boothbay Town Office will be held tonight, March 27, at 6 p.m.

As reported earlier, while the town waits for disaster assistance, the town is asking residents to approve a $3.2 million loan to cover short-term costs for the damage done during the January storms. A second warrant question was added regarding Boothbay Region Development Corporation’s affordable housing project on Butler Road. Last spring, voters approved a $1.5 million bond paid with Tax Increment Funds to finance the project. Instead, a new repayment plan has emerged. The municipal TIF account has enough cash to cover the $1.5 million project. So, selectmen are seeking town approval to bypass the bond and pay the water and sewer project with funds directly from the TIF. Bryer told selectmen this would save “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

The special town meeting will be held prior to that night’s selectmen’s meeting.
