The Boothbay Region soccer teams and skills athletes traveled to Husson University in Bangor on Wed. Oct. 10 for the Central Maine Soccer Skills and Tournament action.

The student athletes took home the silver medal at the event when they finished up the tourney with two games against Oceanside Special Olympians. Amber Hyson led the offense and Issac Pray made the most attempts on goal but he was having a hard time getting past their defense. Lucian Stoddard made a great effort. We lost game one, 5-0. In the second game, Grace Giles went in the goal for Zander Blake and we put “Piper” Rankin in the front line. We still had a hard time delivering a goal. Valerie scored 1 goal in the second half but Oceanside prevailed and the Boothbay students lost their final game 5-1.

The adults played in game one against the Downeast Horizon. Matt Farnham had most of the assists. Joey Ranco scored three and Ronda LeConte scored three, winning the game, 6-2. In game two, the adults played the Navigators from Lewiston/Auburn. Boothbay won 5-2 with Danny Miller in the goal and Donny Dunning assisting. Joey Ranco scored all five goals and was the tournament’s high scorer. In the final two Games, they lost to Momentum Green 2-0 and again 3-0. There were five teams in that division and the Boothbay adults brought home a silver medal.

The skills athletes of Blake Chadwick did very well in a very deep field. Blake made one error, which put him in the 4th place position. Coyle Lawler’s division was tough as well but he managed to win fifth place. Coyle made no errors.

The weather was perfect. Players on the student team not mentioned are Vincent Giles, Anthony Angelico and Kelsey Hoyle. Jameson Brooks was absent.
