Jeffrey Browne will be present at the “Keep the Light Burning” event on Wednesday, Aug. 15 to share his family’s tales as it relates to living at the Hendricks Head Lighthouse. In 1935, Jeff’s grandfather, William Pritchard Browne, purchased the decommissioned lighthouse from the U.S. Government for $4,100. The Browne family spent summers at the light station until 1979 when daughter Mary Browne, and husband Gil Charbonneau, made it their year-round residence.

The seaside setting of Hendricks Head was the perfect place for a retired sailor like Gil to practice the mystifying art of building ships in bottles.

There is still time to purchase tickets for the Aug. 15 evening social that will benefit the restoration of the Burnt Island Lighthouse (rain date, Aug. 16). Limited tickets of $75 each are available by check at the Maine State Aquarium or on-line at: www.keepersofburntislandlight.com.
