Boothbay Region High School junior Sydney Meader was named a state field hockey all-star for the second straight year, according to the Maine Field Hockey Association (MFHA).

Meader, who set a single season scoring record with 24 goals this past season and now has the school record for goals scored with 48, will be honored along with the 73 other all-state players in classes A, B and C at the MFHA banquet at the Augusta Civic Center on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m.

“Sydney is an outstanding athlete that performs at a very high level,” said BRHS coach Donna Jordan. “In 2016 she was a first-team Mountain Valley Conference All-Star and a finalist for MVC Player of the Year. She is one of the few players that has a field hockey goal set up in her yard. Her hard work is definitely paying off and I look forward to working with Syd in 2017.”

“I'm very honored, thankful, and humbled to once again be selected for all-state,” said Meader. “However, I wasn't selected for this award by myself. I would not be the player I am today without Coach Jordan, Coach Brown, Coach Courtney, my teammates, and parents.

“My many coaches have impacted my game. Coach Jordan works hard with me individually and with the team to improve my skills, and push me to my limit. She has led me to many, new and different opportunities that I may have never had if it wasn't for her. Courtney Veinotte, UMaine assistant head coach and my club coach, is incredibly knowledgeable and has taught me many new skills that have and will continue to improve my game.

“Our Boothbay field hockey team is one of a kind. We have each other's backs and support one another. I couldn't be more proud to be representing Boothbay at the all-state banquet in December.”
