“A Star Is Born” - Lady Gaga is a leading contender for a Best Actress Oscar nomination in this new take on the tragic love story, following bravura performances in previous versions by Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand. Director and co-star Bradley Cooper plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers--and falls in love with--struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer... until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. “Degas: Passion For Perfection” - Exhibition On Screen - The first of six films to be shown from Exhibition On Screen, the British pioneering series of cinematic films about exhibitions, galleries and artists. Monthly shows will be on Fridays at 2 p.m. Other artists to be explored include Picasso, Cezanne, Monet, Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Directed by David Bickerstaff, “Degas: Passion for Perfection” journeys from a superb exhibition at The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, where the UK’s most extensive Degas collection is held, to Paris and Italy, where Degas spent his formative years and taught himself to paint. The film offers a unique insight into Degas’ personal and creative life, looking at his relationship with the impressionist movement, fascination with dance, and struggle with his eyesight, which in time would prevent him making art altogether.
