“Can You Ever Forgive Me?” - Melissa McCarthy stars as Lee Israel, the best-selling celebrity biographer (and cat lover) who made her living in the 1970's and 80s profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estēe Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee found herself unable to get published because she had fallen out of step with the marketplace, she turned her art form to forging famous writers letters, abetted by her loyal friend Jack (Richard E. Grant).

“Can You Ever Forgive Me?" (PG13, CC & AD, 107 minutes) plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 and Thursday, Dec. 6.

Beautiful Boy” - The heartbreaking pain a father feels for his meth-addicted son is the core of this highly-personal film based on the best-selling memoirs from Nic Sheff (Steve Carell) and his son  David (Timothée Chalamet). Beautiful Boy chronicles the experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with their beloved son's addiction over many years. As  Samantha Incorvaia says, in her review for the Arizona Republic, Even if you can't relate to the drug-addiction plot, most people will be able to relate to a parent's love of a child and a boy's love of his family and the desire to make them proud. Also starring Amy Ryan as Nic's mom, Maura Tierney as his stepmother, and LisaGay Hamilton in a cameo role.

At the Sunday, Dec. 9 showing: Special guest speakers Holly Stover, Program Director of the Addiction Outreach Program, and Boothbay Harbor Police Chief Bob Hasch will introduce the filma and field audience questions. Complimentary cider and donuts will be served starting at 1:30 p.m., the film will begin at 2 p.m.

"Beautiful Boy" is Rated R (CC & AD, 120 minutes). It plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7; Saturday, Dec. 8; Wednesday, Dec. 12 and Thursday, Dec. 13.

Elf” - A free holiday movie with a small bag of popcorn for kids up to age 18! Critics say “Elf” is a movie full of Yuletide cheer, a spirited, good-natured family comedy, and it benefits greatly from Will Ferrell's funny and charming performance as one of Santa's biggest helpers. Ferrell stars as Buddy, a regular-sized man who was raised as an elf by Santa Claus (Edward Asner). When the news is finally broken to Buddy that he's not a real elf, he decides to head back to his place of birth, New York City, in search of his biological family. Also stars James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Zooey Deschanel and Bob Newhart. "Elf" (PG, 97 minutes) plays Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.

“Mumbai to Maine” - A Special Event! - Pilot episode of filmed series depicting Boothbay's Cherie Scott on her remarkable journey from Mumbai (India) to Maine. Directed by Ryan Leighton with cinematography by Cody Mitchell. Live music by Max Ater starts off the evening at 6 p.m. Complimentary food and drink including Indian fare by Eventide Specialties; Maine appetizers by The Thistle Inn, Chef Stephen Richards, Family Thyme, and Sedgley Place. Screening starts at 7:30 p.m. Coastal Maine Popcorn during the film Tuesday, Dec. 11, 6-9 p.m. Tickets for “Mumbai to Maine” at the door: $10 (cash only).

“Antony & Cleopatra” - Broadcast live from the National Theatre, Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo play Shakespeare’s famous fated couple in his great tragedy of politics, passion and power. “The Philadelphia Story” - When a rich woman's ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself. Starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart. One of the greatest romantic comedies ever produced, The Philadelphia Story was recently selected as one of the top 100 American films of all time by the prestigious American Film Institute. Presented by the Lincoln Theater Classic Film Club. (1940; 1 hour, 52 minutes) Plays Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.

“The Old Man & The Gun” - Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford), from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest's commitment to his craft, and a woman (Sissy Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.  Redford claims this will be his final performance as a film actor. (PG-13; 1 hour, 33 minutes) Playing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8; plays at 2 and 7 p.m.  Sunday, Dec. 9 and Wednesday, Dec. 12 (2 p.m. with open captions) and Thursday, Dec. 13.

“Miracle on 34th Street” -  Serving as a last-minute replacement for the drunken Santa who was to have led Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Kringle is offered a job as a Macy's toy-department Santa. Supervisor Maureen O'Hara soon begins having second thoughts about hiring Kris: it's bad enough that he is laboring under the delusion that he's the genuine Saint Nick; but when he begins advising customers to shop elsewhere for toys that they can't find at Macy's, he's gone too far! Free event. (1947; 1 hour, 36 minutes) Playing Saturday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m.

“The King and I” -  - Set in 1860 Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. Starring Kelli O’Hara (Anna) and Ken Watanabe, captured live from the London Palladium on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.
