Walking in the woods, in fields, and along the Damariscotta River near my home, I see paintings everywhere,” says Jane Dahmen, an established local artist whose work can be seen in a new show at the Maine Art Gallery Wiscasset.

Her fellow exhibitors, Daisy Greene and Consuelo Joerns, also well known in the arts community, echo this passion for the Maine landscape in their work. The show, entitled “Three Women on Board,” opens with a reception beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24. Entertainment will be provided by The Flying Seeds with flute and guitar music reminiscent of the mountains of Peru.

Jane Dahmen has been painting the Maine landscape for the past four decades. Her paintings are inspired by the natural world around her, often looking through trees at water or sky beyond. Her paintings have grown in size over her career, creating immersive environments that enable viewers to enter into her experience of the midcoast landscape.

Daisy Greene is heart and soul a Maine artist. The subjects of her paintings have centered on her love of Maine, capturing pine forests and coastal villages, sunshine and winters, mixing strong hues with muted ones in bold strokes. Her style is often toughly realistic and sometimes reflecting more abstract patterns that remind one of tapestries.

Consuelo Joerns moved to Maine in 2000 after living and working throughout the world. She has lived in Japan and her work reflects an affinity with Japanese art. A lyrical sense of space and washes of color bring an inner peace and joy to the viewer.

“Three Women on Board” can be seen Thursday through Saturday through Sept. 22. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Maine Art Gallery Wiscasset is located in the old Academy building at 15 Warren Street.
