Dec. 9 will be here before you know it, so mark your calendar now. The now famous Barters Island Community Association (BICA) holiday workshop and tea will take place at the hall at 2 p.m. Wreaths will be made and presents for the children will be wrapped, all followed by yummy sweets and Judy’s delicious tea. Donations of goodies for the tea are welcome. The more the merrier so bring a friend, neighbor or relative.

If you weren’t able to get a mitten describing who to shop for, any gift will be appreciated. If you are not able to attend the workshop, let Judy (633-5341) know so that arrangements can be made to get your unwrapped gift to the hall. Or just drop it at her house. And gift bags for the presents are always appreciated.

You should bring gardens clippers and any embellishments that you might want to add to your wreath. Some ribbon will be provided but if you want to use a special one, please bring that along.

Another date to go on the calendar: the traditional Christmas dinner. Again this year, the BICA officers and trustees will be providing the dinner on Dec. 19, so attendees are asked to bring either an appetizer or a dessert. Plan on coming at 5:30 p.m. and enjoying this merry evening. Festive outfits add to the holiday atmosphere -  even those ugly Christmas sweaters work. This will be the last event at the hall until next April.

There was a great turnout for the November potluck and those in attendance were treated to a very informative presentation by Mary of New Hope for Women. She provided important telephone numbers: for domestic abuse, call New Hope for Women (1-800-522-3304); for elder abuse, call Adult Protective Services 1-(800-624-8408).

New BICA trustee Andrea was introduced. We welcome her to the association. The annual raffle for the Food Pantry was sizeable and BICA will be matching the amount donated. Many thanks to all who bought tickets. And congratulations to Robin, the lucky winner of the turkey and basket of goodies.
