It might have been just another beautiful summer evening on the banks of the Damariscotta River in Newcastle, had vintage cars not been sitting in the yard of the Lincoln Home at 22 River Road causing a stir.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21, the home established in 1925 for retirement living held its 10th annual vintage car show. The models on display were a variety of bold colors including red, white, tan and many in black. The cars spanned from 1932 to 1985. Moving to the rain date a week later lowered entries this year, but spirits were still high.

Spoke wheels, white wall tires, shining chrome trim, and owners' tremendous pride set the stage for the presentation.

Vintage cars can be any old automobile, but for car enthusiasts and collectors, it is one between the years of 1919 and 1930. Enthusiasts distinguish cars as antique, vintage, or classic.

According to Rhonda Hannah, director of community life, the Lincoln Home began this event for the enjoyment of its residents as much as the general public. A number of the home's older residents could have driven around in some of these cars during their younger years and it is always fun to think about the good old days. However, it has caught on and locals and people from away enjoy either looking at or showing off their prized cars.

Chris Williams from New Harbor, who has been showing his 1985 Porsche convertible for several years, said he enjoys the car the most with the top down in warm weather.

Edgecomb's Robert Blum, also a regular at the show with his 1957 Corvette, comes for the root beer floats.

The show is held the second Tuesday every August.
