The 10-run mercy rule was invoked Friday, May 19 as the Winthrop Ramblers baseball team ran over the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks, 16-6.

The Seahawks got off to a quick start with a two-run burst in the first inning sparked by singles by Zach Blackman and Cameron Crocker. They were brought home on a single by Hunter Crocker.

The lead did not last long with the Ramblers batting around in the third inning, scoring seven runs. They added another six runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

The Seahawks put four hits and two runs  together in the third inning and added another deuce in the fifth but those were not enough to push the game to a seventh inning.

Grant Giles started the game on the mound for the Seahawks with Hunter Crocker and Blackman in relief.

Winthrop advanced to a 7-4 record. The Seahawks dropped to 2-7.
