Children, adults and that jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus, helped spread the Christmas cheer as the Boothbay Region YMCA Y-Arts program held its annual Christmas concert, “Sing We Now of Christmas,” at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor Thursday night, Dec. 20.

The Music Theatre Dance group got things started with a peppy song and dance number, “Faith (Rudolph has Faith!), followed by a welcoming from Y-Arts Director Emily Mirabile. Then cuteness took to the altar as the Kiddie Choir sang three songs, “Five Gingerbread Men,” “Jingle Bells," (complete with hand bells, and “Santa is His Name-O.”

A beautiful rendition of “O Holy Night” followed, played by Emily Barker on violin and accompanied by John Mulcahy on piano.

Waiting patiently in the wings, the Arts For All group then gathered on the altar to sing, “Everyone Gets Something for Christmas,” and the group was joined by the Music Theatre Dance children for a combined singing of “Beautiful Christmas.”

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by the Music Theatre Dance group was followed by a well-performed and funny song, “The 12 Days After Christmas,” by Roosevelt “Robo” Bishop, Soren Barker and Emily Barker, with Anne Barker as accompanist on piano.

The Youth Choir and Santa Claus then sang a series of several songs, including some takeoffs on Disney songs – “Gonna Catch That Santa,” “Snow Necessities,” “Zip A Dee Doo Dah,” “Hakuna Christmas,” “Santa,” “Friend Like Me” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

The night ended with the concert performers leading a sing-along of “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
