Kids ate, danced, raced, tugged and generally had a good time July 19 in Southport. About 150 people including moms, dads and kids attended the fourth annual Family Fun Day at Southport Central School.

The Southport Island Association started Family Fun Day in 2014 by asking three local parents to organize a family event. The association asked Madea Harris, Stephanie Guite and Jen Baker to organize the event which features a limbo contest, lobster toss (bean bags thrown onto a trap), tug-of-war, cod fish relay, pie eating (blueberry) contest, and boat races. Winners were declared in each event and received a prize.

Prior to the official contests, a bounce house was available for entertainment as well as select field games such as ring and bean bag tosses.

Event organizers recruited Principal Lisa Clarke, who Harris called “amazing” to organize other volunteers, food and snacks. The event lasted from 4 to 7 p.m. Local disc jockey Sea-Dawg provided musical entertainment.
